When a City Cares: Addis Ababa

Van Leer Foundation

FILM + SOCIAL CUTDOWNS

I led the edit and creative direction of a short film exploring early childhood development in Ethiopia for the Van Leer Foundation. The project combined powerful storytelling with purposeful messaging to highlight the importance of early learning and community support, resulting in a film that connected emotionally with audiences while advancing the foundation’s mission.

The film followed a real family living in Addis Ababa, offering an intimate glimpse into the challenges and hopes of raising children in a changing city. As the second instalment in the When a City Cares series, it built on the themes of community and care introduced in the first film, showing how urban systems and local initiatives can shape early childhood experiences.
